BACP is the professional association for members of the counselling professions in the UK, including those who integrate coaching & counselling, or offer coaching & counselling as separate services
Research is vital for the counselling professions, helping to provide evidence for the range of issues where therapy can be effective. We produce many research resources to inform practice.
This includes the production of Counselling and Psychotherapy Research (CPR). CPR is an international peer-reviewed journal dedicated to linking research with practice in counselling and psychotherapy. It aims to promote high-quality, ethical research that influences, informs and develops counselling and psychotherapy practice.
BACP publish nine journals for counsellors and psychotherapists.
Therapy Today is the most widely read specialist magazine for counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK, and has a strong international presence. We publish articles on topics crossing the breadth of counselling and psychotherapy practice, modalities and theoretical approaches.
Coaching Today - The quarterly professional journal of BACP Coaching division is for counsellors and psychotherapists who are retraining and practising as coaches, as well as coaches from a range of backgrounds.
Our bursaries and award schemes provide financial support to help, encourage and reward members in their studies, and for their contributions to developing the evidence-base for counselling.
BACP has a Research noticeboard, detailing current research projects and studies by BACP members who are looking for participants
We organise professional events covering many different aspects of counselling and psychotherapy. Events take place all over the UK, and online, and are open to members and non-members.
BACP also hosts a dedicated annual research conference.
All BACP members have to work in accordance with the Ethical Framework. There are three main sections:
Our commitment to clients provides a summary of working to professional standards and building an ethical relationship
Ethics specifies the values, principles and personal moral qualities that inform our work and underpin supervision
Good practice considers the application of our commitments to clients and ethics to our practice
The Ethical Framework is supplemented by a series of Good Practice in Action Resources
